Bulgarian Weather Patterns

Bulgaria Weather

Bulgaria WeatherBulgarian weather patterns are surprisingly complex. Even though the location is not very large, due to its placement the weather can be quite different. Lying near the Black Sea, the country is full of valleys and mountains alike.

The valleys provide a bit of a barrier when it comes to air coming down from the various mountain locations. These provide some of the biggest differences to temperature throughout the country. With the difference between the continental zone and the Mediterranean zone you see that difference during both seasons.

During the winter the continental zone will become more of an influence, with large amounts of snow fall. The summer will see the Mediterranean zone influencing the weather with dry and hot weather present.

Due to the Balkan Mountains the North part of Bulgaria will normally range in temperature a degree cooler than the south. While it will also have over 192 millimeters more of rain too. Marking the end of the weather that is dominated by the Mediterranean zone you will find the Rhodope Mountains.

Leaving the Thracian Plain, the spot in between the two zones, influenced by both of them, it is a climate you will find that matches closely to that of the Corn Belt in the US. Generally a bit more severe though when compared to European locations that are on the same latitude. That means the temperatures in this location will vary quite a lot.

Precipitation averages to around 630 millimeters each year in Bulgaria. While the Thracian plain will normally get 500 millimeters less than the rest of the country. Higher locations may get an average of more than 2,500 millimeters of precipitation per year.

The Black sea will normally only influence those coastal cities, causing winds that are strong and some very violent storms during the winter. As you can see, Bulgaria weather can differ quite a bit, it makes for a wonderful vacation spot anytime of the year with the coastal resorts benefiting from the warm climate during the summer months and the mountain resorts in the west cooling to below zero to bring the ideal winter climate for winter and skiing holidays.

Check out the many things you can do either during the summer or winter in Bulgaria. Many beaches are along the Black Sea, while you will find many choices for ski resorts in the mountains. Choose which Bulgaria weather you like more and plan a vacation accordingly.

Don't forget to take a few changes of clothes if you happen to visit those areas where you can see the difference in the weather though. Be prepared for anything when you visit Bulgaria!
